Fire victims receive support from NADMO

The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has presented relief items to the Overlord of Mamprugu, the Nayiri, Naa Bohogu Mahami Abdulai Sheriga, and the St Charles Minor Seminary/Senior High School (SHS) in separate ceremonies at Nalerigu and Tamale.

Fire recently gutted parts of the Nayiri Palace in Nalerigu and the boys dormitory block of St Charles SHS.

According to the Director General of NADMO, Mr Eric Nana Agyemang Prempeh, the donations that were made last Friday, were at the instance of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the Vice-President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

Fires

On April 1, this year, fire reduced the bedroom of the overlord of the Mamprugu Kingdom to ashes.

Various belongings of the Nayiri estimated at thousands of cedis, including skin regalia, were lost to the fire.

Earlier on March 21, fire gutted the two-storey boy's dormitory block of the St Charles SHS with the over 500 students losing their properties.

Donations

The Nayiri was presented with bags of rice, mats, assorted soap, cooking oil, mosquito nets, mosquito coils and an undisclosed sum, while St Charles SHS received mattresses, mosquito nets, blankets, plastic buckets and assorted soaps.

Speaking to the Daily Graphic in Accra at the weekend, Mr Prempeh said the donations were to help the Nayiri and the students of the school overcome the difficulties they encountered as a result of the fires.

The NADMO Director General added that President Akufo-Addo tasked him to assess the extent of damage, and the feedback he gave to him led to the donation.

He said the Nayiri thanked the President, the Vice-President and NADMO for the support.

The Headmaster of the school, Mr Polycarp Kuusokub Beyelle, also expressed similar appreciation.

The NADMO boss was led by the Northern Regional Minister, Mr Salifu Said.
