The student, identified as Bismarck Ato Cobbinah, was said to have been electrocuted as he was cutting the branch of a tree which was directly under a high-tension pylon.

According to the police, the teacher, whose name was given only as Teacher Paapa, had asked the three students to bring tree branches to school for some repair works on his veranda.

Following the teacher’s instruction, the students went to the bush last Sunday, but while they were cutting the branches Cobbinah was electrocuted.

The Daboase District Police Commander, Assistant Superintendent of Police Ms Juliana Essel-Dadzie, told the Daily Graphic that the police were investigating the incident.

She said according to the two students who were with Cobbina, he told them that he had spotted a tree branch that he wanted to cut and so his mates went further into the bush to look for other branches.

“The mates said while they were in the bush, they heard a short cry from Cobbinah. They rushed to the scene, only to see their mate dead, and called for help from the community,” she said.

She said the police had contacted the school authorities and the bereaved family, while the teacher who sent the students had been invited to help with investigations.
