Fadi Samih Dabbousi was granted bail last night after his lawyer, Mr Mawuena Agbenotor, had contacted the BNI over the issue.

Sources close to the BNI told the Daily Graphic in Accra yesterday that Dabbousi, described as a journalist, had been asked to substantiate the allegations of impropriety he levelled against the President on the Internet.

Dabbousi, said to have close ties with the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), is reported to have offered no defence during his interrogation.

The BNI source said it was not true Dabbousi had been arrested because he had authored a book titled: "59 Years to Nowhere”.

“His arrest has nothing to do with his book,” it stressed.

The source added that Dabbousi was co-operating with investigations that were going on.

Charges

Asked about the charges on which Dabbousi had been held, the source said: “We are still interrogating him and we will decide whether or not to charge him after investigations.”

According to media reports, Dabbousi was arrested at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) on his arrival from a trip abroad.
