Dela was charged on three counts of unlawful entry, causing damage and stealing.

He pleaded guilty on all counts and the court, presided over by James Kojo Botah, sentenced him to two years imprisonment with hard labour.

Dela broke down in tears when the presiding judge asked if he had anything to say to mitigate the case before being sentenced but he only shook his head and burst into tears.

Dela’s mother, Mrs Beatrice Babanyo, also burst into tears.

Mrs Babanyo told the court that her son was not of sound mind and had received treatment to that effect.

However, Mr Botah made it known that, through interactions with Dela; he was convinced that Dela was of sound mind and should, therefore, serve his sentence.

Presenting the facts of the case to the court on August 22, 2016, Inspector John Gohoho said the complainant, John Sanie, is an IT Specialist while Dela is a computer repairer.

Inspector Gohoho said Sanie owned an uncompleted storey building close to his house and some of the workers occupied the top floor of the building.

The prosecutor said on August 16, 2016, at about 3:00 a.m, one of the workers who is a witness in the case, saw Dela pulling the wires which were hanging from the top floor into two sacks.

Inspector Gohoho said the witness raised an alarm, causing other workers to come out. Dela upon sensing danger took to his heels taking the two sacks of electrical wire valued at GH¢4000 along.

Dela was given a hot chase and was grabbed, and taken to the police station where a report was made.
