Eastern Regional Best farmer unhappy with prizes

The 2016 Eastern Regional Best Farmer, Mr Samson Amanor, has expressed discontent with the items presented to him as his prize.

He claimed that the prizes awarded to the first runner-up were better than his.

Moreover, he said the tricycle that was given him was not functioning, a situation which inconvenienced him while conveying his items home.

Prizes

For his prize, Mr Amanor received a tricycle, a spraying machine, boxes of alcoholic drinks and soap, a double-decker refrigerator, a flat screen television set, GH¢1,000 from the management of Joy Industries Limited and a promise by the Eastern Regional Minister, Ms Mavis Ama Frimpong, to extend electricity to his farm warehouse.

The first runner-up, Mr Daniel Osei Asumeni, received items including a tricycle, double-decker refrigerator, a microwave oven, roofing sheets, four knapsack spraying machines, a 32-inch LED television set, seven pairs of Wellington boot, shovels, 10 machetes and a standing fan.

Mr Asumeni also received a rechargeable lamp, a steam iron, a four-burner gas cooker, one watering can and boxes of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.

Appeal

Speaking to the Daily Graphic, Mr Amanor said he suspected that his prize might have been swapped with that of Mr Asumeni.

He, therefore, appealed to the organisers to take a second look at the items presented to him and also requested that his non-functioning tricycle be replaced with a working one.

The Eastern Regional Farmers Day was observed in Odumase-Krobo in the Lower Manya Krobo municipality, during which 32 farmers were rewarded.
