Dumelo and co have not been paid for NDC endorsements – Omane Boamah

The many celebrities who have endorsed President John Dramani Mahama and are out there campaigning for his re-election are doing so from their own free will, the Minister of Communications, Dr Omane Boamah has said.

In an interview on Accra based radio station Joy FM Tuesday morning, Dr Omane Boamah said the President has not paid anything to the celebrities and that, “people like Rex Omar, these are established people, John Dumelo and the rest.”

“The NDC is not paying anyone for endorsements. They are endorsing the president and doing everything for free,” Dr Omane Boamah said in the interview with Joy FM's Kojo Yankson.

The NDC and President Mahama’s campaign has received endorsements from some celebrities in the country.

They include Rex Omar, John  Dumelo, Mzbel, Afua Schwarzeneger, Mr Beautiful, Papa Nii among others and they have been on NDC campaign platforms soliciting for votes to help retain President John Mahama in power for a record third term.

Some of these celebrities have recently been spotted in town in new vehicles and on social media as well some have taken photographs of their new vehicles and showcased it. John Dumelo has been spotted in a Toyota Landcruiser V8, Afua Schwarzeneger in a Fortuner and Papa Nii in a Fiat.

Comments and questions have come up on social media as to who was funding the celebrities, so Kojo Yankson in his interview asked Dr Omane Boamah, “Is the NDC and the President paying off ambassadors, giving them cars?

“We are not doing that at all. Just two days ago, someone ‘whatsapped’ a picture of Agya Koo popping out of a V8 rooftop and waving and I jokingly posted on the one Ghana platform that this is what happens when someone who endorses becomes more popular than the flag bearer… it doesn’t even mean that Agya Koo now owns that particular v8,” Dr Omane Boamah said.

He said he was sure the ambassadors themselves can speak to it and the fact that they are in those vehicles does not mean that they own them.

“To the best of my knowledge, neither the NDC nor the President is giving out these,” he said and added that the vituperations against John Dumelo and all others who have endorsed President Mahama were uncalled for.

He urged the opposition NPP to “exhibit much more tolerance to the people who are endorsing” President Mahama and added that at the end of the day even the silent majority will even matter much more going into December 7 activities than even those that you are seeing on the platforms.

“To the best of my knowledge, we have not given them these vehicles”, he concluded.
