The largesse was to mark his 64th birthday which fell on April 8, 2017. It translated into $1,000 a year for the number of years he had lived and the amount was from his personal savings.

Beneficiaries

The beneficiaries are the Brothers of Holy Cross Society, which is constructing a senior high school (SHS) near Kasoa in the Central Region, which received GH¢100,000, the equivalent of $23,809.52; the St Vincent College of Education in Yendi in the Northern Region, which received GH¢50,000 ($11,904.76), and the St Louis Catholic Church at Assin Darmang, which got GH¢20,000 ($4,761.90) for the construction of the St Theresa’s Vocational Institute.

The Konongo Mampong Diocese received GH¢50,000 ($11,904.76) to support the construction of a new cathedral, while the Jukwa St Edward’s Catholic Church requested the donor to rather tile its parish hall project.

Rationale

Explaining the rationale for the donation, Dr Nduom said it was a way of giving back to the Catholic Church, which played a crucial role in his upbringing.

“I have been blessed with a special consideration from God and I attribute it to my faith. So I said I’d do something special for my church, the Catholic Church.

“It is also to ensure that I do something that will benefit the  church,” he said.

He explained that it was based on that philosophy that he chose three Catholic educational institutions and two church-based facilities.

Dr Nduom said he believed that all his successes and challenges were from God and, therefore, he wanted to contribute a token to the advancement of the Word of God.

Appreciation

The Bishop of the Konongo Mampong Diocese, the Most Rev. Joseph Osei-Bonsu, on behalf of the beneficiaries, thanked Dr Nduom for his show of kindness and generosity.

He prayed that God would replenish what Dr Nduom had given out and used the opportunity to express the sympathy of the beneficiaries to Dr Nduom following the fire that destroyed a section of the Coconut Grove Hotel.
