According to those who spoke to the Daily Graphic, the IGP’s action gave an indication that the Police Administration lacked compassion.

They wondered why the IGP and an entourage of police personnel would visit Donkorkrom and inspect police facilities that were destroyed during the disturbances but never bothered to visit injured persons admitted to hospital.

Transfers

Fourteen people were injured in the recent disturbances in the town with seven of them in very critical conditions.

Four of the injured are still on admission at the Donkorkrom Presbyterian Hospital, while two have been discharged.Another has been transferred to the Koforidua Government Hospital due to the severity of his injuries.

The wounded

Meanwhile, the General Manager of the Presbyterian Hospital, Mr Kweku Fianko Gyan, who briefed the Daily Graphic during a visit to the hospital, said seven out of the 14 injured persons who were rushed to the hospital had to undergo various surgical interventions.

He explained, however, that the hospital, had to refer one of the injured because his condition was beyond the capability of the district hospital.

Mr Gyan said 14 people were rushed to the hospital for wounds and injuries they sustained in the confrontation. He said those who received minor injuries were treated and discharged.

“But seven had to be sent to the theatre because they needed immediate surgical intervention,” he said, adding that the injured person referred to the Koforidua General Hospital had suffered gunshot wounds to his lower abdomen.

He said he was hopeful the four remaining persons would be discharged soon because all the bullets shot at them had been removed, while their wounds were being treated.

Gratitude

Mr Gyan expressed his gratitude to the Eastern Regional Minister, Ms Mavis Ama Frimpong, and the Kwahu Afram Plains North District Assembly for visiting the wounded and pledging to pay for the cost of treatment for all the persons who were brought to the hospital for treatment.

According to him, the regional minister had made a part payment of GH¢3,000 to the hospital and had in addition requested that the rest of the bill covering their treatment be forwarded to her through the Kwahu Afram Plains North District Assembly.
