DKM customers angry with GH¢10 payments

The hopes of many people who invested in DKM Financial Services to get back part of their investments from the office of the liquidator have been dashed.

When the official liquidator posted notices for the repayment of the investments, the depositors heaved sighs of relief, but since last Monday’s exercise, the enthusiasm among the depositors has been replaced with anger and frustration.

While reports say that one person died from shock on noticing that his name was not on the payment list, the process in Bolgatanga was halted after many depositors who were paid a paltry GH¢10 each, without any explanation, protested.

According to the customers, they did not understand why, after they had invested huge sums of money in the company, they would be given a paltry sum of GH¢10 "which cannot even prepare one meal for a small family".

The angry customers told the Daily Graphic that representatives of the official liquidator did not explain to them why they were being paid GH¢10 each.

One of the customers, who gave his name only as Yakubu, showed a document and the GH¢10 he had received from the representatives of the official liquidator.

According to him, he invested GH¢11,000 and wondered why he should be given just GH¢10.

Some of the customers intimated that from their calculation, it was the GH¢10  they had used to open their respective savings accounts for the payment process to be effected that had been refunded to them and noted that that  was not "fair but a mark of deceit".

Meanwhile, at the time of filing this report, representatives of the official liquidator were in the main banking hall of the GCB Bank, as policemen detailed to maintain law and order would not allow customers to enter the banking hall.

However, some of the customers who became upset due to the situation, left, while others decided to wait patiently to see the outcome.

Deceased

The owner of Micky Enterprise in Berekum in the Brong Ahafo Region reportedly died from shock when he detected that his name was not on the list of those to be paid.

The deceased, identified only as Bra Kwasi, reportedly invested GH¢600,000 in the company.

He is said to have died last Sunday after learning that his name was not included in the list of people whose names had been verified and certified for part payment of their deposits.

Aggrieved customers

The Spokesperson of the Concerned DKM Customers in the Brong Ahafo Region, Mr Maxwell Mahama, told the Daily Graphic that the deceased, who was a known member of the group, was a businessman who dealt in wax prints in Berekum and operated the Micky Enterprise.

“The family would not tell you about the cause of death of their family member but it is clear that he died over the DKM debacle,” he explained.

Confirmation

Further checks by the Daily Graphic in Berekum confirmed the businessman’s death.

A resident of the town who pleaded anonymity said Bra Kwasi had been sick for some time now as a result of his heavy investment in DKM but passed on last Sunday evening.
