Digital weather facility installed at Wesphalia SHS in Ashanti
Geography students of Westphalia Senior High School, an orphanage, now have the privilege of having practical experience in weather predictions following the successful installation of a Digital Weather Station on their school campus at Oyoko-Effiduase in the Ashanti Region.

The device, which would be transferred onto the national meteorology data, has the potency to check weather forecasts. The facility was unveiled at a ceremony on the school campus last Monday.
The mechanism, which is one of a kind in West Africa, was provided by Global Learning and Observations to Benefit the Environment (GLOBE), Germany, a worldwide science education programme being sponsored through the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).
The GLOBE programme seeks to improve science education, increase scientific understanding of the earth as a system and also enhance environmental awareness worldwide.
Anniversary
The Headmaster of the school, Mr Joseph Ampomah Dwumfuor, said the ceremony coincided with the school’s 21st anniversary.
He commended the International Union of Westphalian Children’s Villages in Germany and GLOBE for their support over the years. As part of the anniversary, an ultramodern science laboratory and a 58-capacity Falcon Bus were also inaugurated to facilitate academic work in the school.
According to him, the installation of the equipment would also help the students with hands-on training and also provide climatic information to residents and neighbouring communities.
Commendation
The Kyidomhene of Oyoko Breman, Nana Amoako Amankwa, commended the International Union of Westphalian Children’s Villages in Germany for creating opportunities for the teeming youth in the area.
He said the orphanage had not only helped in rescuing children from the streets but had also provided them with employable skills in order to be independent in life.
