According to him, despite several calls on the leadership of the NPP to caution their supporters, NDC members were still being attacked across the country.

Addressing the press today at the party’s headquarters, Kofi Portuphy said the NDC has run out of patience and cautioned all members to defend themselves.

“In other words, you said if there are some attack on me I shouldn’t defend myself… I am the leader of the party and I am saying if they attack them, they should defend themselves until there is police protection. They should not cross their hands for the NPP people to butcher them to death... I have said it in a statement that, one of such case is in the Juaben court in Ashanti and I have commended the police for rising up to the challenge and they are doing well to bringing peace to bear on this critical action...

"Our people have reported several cases to the police and the security agencies and I commended them for working on it. I also commend our party agents right from the branches to the constituencies and regions and nationally…. You have know idea the energy we are spending on keeping our people within law and order… But if you are walking in the night a member of your party has been attacked by NPP marauders, brigadiers in the night, what will you do? You just don’t go and tell them to fight back and kill them because they seek to kill them. But this signal we are giving, is to let Ghanaians know that we are bearing all this with patience. We want the international communities to know before they turn round when there is one act of retaliation by any member of NDC”. Kofi Portuphy said.

The National Chairman also advised the NDC faithful to desist from blaming officers of the party for their loss of the December 7 elections.

Also present at the press conference were the first Vice Chairman and the director of elections Ofosu Ampofu, deputy General Secretary, Koku Anyidoho and the Vice Chairperson, Betty Mould Iddrisu.

On December 9th the electoral Commission declared the NPP's candidate Nana Akufo-Addo as winner of the 2016 presidential election sparking wild celebrations by the party faithful.

Members of the party are alleged to have vandalised state property across the country in the aftermath and also attacked NDC supporters.

The attacks were later condemned by the Acting NPP General Secretary John Boadu, the National Peace Council (NPC)and the Ghana Police Service who have vowed to arrest all offenders.
