Decorbuild Lorry Park in Madina in bad condition

A private lorry park at Madina in the La Nkwantanang-Madina Municipal Assembly (LaNMMA), the Decorbuild Lorry Park (DLP), is in a deplorable condition.

The disturbingly bad situation has compelled commuters to board vehicles by the roadside to their destinations and this has angered commercial drivers who use the lorry park because it is affecting their transport business.

In addition, the concerned drivers are irritated because even though the management of the facility collects a fee of GH¢2.50 as toll from them on a daily basis, there is nothing to show for it.

In their interactions with the Daily Graphic last Tuesday, the drivers expressed discontent with the nature of the park and urged the managers of the facility to put the place in order for their business to thrive.

The lorry park

DLP has for many years been the place to pick transport to various locations in the city of Accra and areas beyond.

Both commuters within Accra and travellers to other parts of the country including the Volta, Eastern and Ashanti regions come to DLP to board vehicles or use it as a transit point.

Besides, others such as food vendors, petty traders and hawkers use the park as a trading centre.

Blame management

Some drivers who could not hide their frustration blamed the managers of the park for looking on unconcerned while the facility deteriorated.

To them, the managers were only interested in collecting money from them and did not care about conditions at the park.

"Whenever it rains, commuters find it difficult to walk to this place to board vehicles because of the muddy condition,” Mr Sharif Inusah, a driver, complained.

The drivers, under the circumstances, are asking the managers of the lorry park to fix the place as soon as possible or face their wrath.

Meanwhile, efforts by the Daily Graphic to get the managers of the lorry park to speak on the matter were unsuccessful - as of 10:30 am their offices were still closed. At the same time, toll collectors working at the park refused to give out phone numbers of the managers when asked.
