The manufacturing plant in Nigeria will also focus on the production of all liquid medicines to feed Ghana and the rest of the West African sub-region.

The Chief Executive Officer of Danadams, Dr Yaw Adu Gyamfi, made this known when a team of health experts from the Niger State in Nigeria paid a courtesy call on him and the company’s management.

The team was led by the Niger State Commissioner of Health, Dr Mustapha Jibril.

The purpose of the visit was for the team to familiarise themselves with the operations of Danadams.

Fruitful partnership

Dr Adu Gyamfi said the opening of the Nigeria branch of Danadams was the result of a fruitful partnership between the Niger State Health Authority and the management of Danadams.

The move, he said, was to enable Danadams to penetrate the Nigerian market with its quality and affordable medicines, especially anti-retroviral medicines.

Nigeria is the second country after South Africa with the largest population of HIV and AIDS patients. About 3.5 million people are said to be living with the pandemic in Nigeria.

Dr Adu Gyamfi said the opening of the new branch, called Danadams-Bakai Pharmaceuticals Industry Limited, would make it possible for more HIV and AIDS patients in Nigeria to get access to anti-retroviral drugs.

The Danadams branch in Ghana has been supplying anti-retroviral medicines to Nigeria and other parts of the sub-region.

He said with the opening of the new manufacturing plant in Nigeria, the company was in a good position to increase the production of its pharmaceutical products.

“We can now increase our supply of pharmaceutical products, including malaria and anti-retroviral medicines, to all parts of the continent,” he added.

Nigerian government’s support

For his part, Dr Jibril commended the management of Danadams for the effort to expand production to Nigeria.

He said the Nigerian government was ready and prepared to fully support the company to manufacture quality medicines to feed the continent.

According to him, a lot more could be done to improve the health sector in Africa if health industries formed partnerships and worked together.

He, therefore, urged local companies to extend their operations to other parts of the world to enable them to gain access to markets for expansion and growth.
