Court grants injunction against YEA and AG

The Accra High Court on Wednesday granted an interim injunction application filed against the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) and the Attorney General (AG) to restrain them from embarking on a mass staff transfer.

The application filed by Joseph Nelson and others pleaded with the court to restrain the YEA from proceeding to transfer almost 500 staff of the agency to various regions in the country.

It will be recalled that on June 10, 2017, the management of the YEA announced it was embarking on a mass transfer of personnel under the agency to various regions.

The statement from YEA explained that the transfer was part of an “ongoing restructuring exercise to re-position the Agency for higher productivity.”

However, on June 14, this year, the Minority side in parliament accused the management of the YEA of engaging in illegal mass transfers of staff who were suspected to be National Democratic Congress (NDC) supporters.

According to them, the said transfers were designed to remove the affected staff from their offices and quickly replace them with friends, family and political supporters.

Meanwhile, the current management of the agency has deleted some 16,839 names from the payroll, which it says has saved the country Ghc20million.
