The Founder of Rehoboth Foundation, a non-governmental organisation (NGO), based in the United Kingdom, Reverend Mrs Celia Appiagyei Collins, who made the call, said establishments that did not invest in the well-being of their workers faced a bleak future.

The conference, which was on the theme, “Technology driven Human Resource (HR): People, processes and performance”, brought together more than 500 HR practitioners.

Also present were corporate organisations that exhibited some of their products and services.

The conference was aimed at bringing to the fore how technology was changing the world and how such change was affecting work, productivity and overall people management.

There was also a career development session where students, jobseekers and young executives were given hands-on training in their various endeavours.

The session also featured the introduction of “Busyness Challenge”, an initiative aimed at discovering the entrepreneurial strengths of students.

Welfare

Speaking on the topic, “Measuring and improving performance through leadership coaching and mentoring,” Rev. Mrs Collins said the welfare of workers in establishments was critical to the successes of those entities.

She therefore  underscored the need for HR practitioners to identify the potential of people they employed rather than only relying on their curriculum vitae.

Rev. Mrs Collins said it was the duty of the HR manager in any organisation to create the enabling environment that would ensure that the needs of workers were met to motivate them to give their best.

She said as managers, they should be able to work at impacting the lives of their staff, emphasising that “as a manager, you must be a coach not an expert so as to help refine skills of your staff.”

The Human Resource Administrator and Facilities Director of Tullow Ghana Limited, Mrs Irene Asare, who spoke on “How technology can drive high efficiency and enhance service delivery.” called on practitioners to ensure that they used technology to drive success in their various organisations.

She said with the availability of modern technologies, HR practitioners could achieve a lot within a short time to help enhance productivity.
