The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the hospital, Mr  Alexander Akwasi  Acquah, said the issue of providing quality healthcare should not be a matter for the government alone to solve but must be a subject of concern to private sector players as well.

“The Community Hospital Group in this regard will roll out “a one district, one community hospital’ programme in an effort to improve access to quality healthcare for the masses and at affordable prices,” he said.

Mr Acquah was speaking at the handing over of a Mercedes Benz ambulance, worth GH¢94,000, to the Community Hospital at Kukurantumi in the Eastern Region by the Deputy Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Mrs Gifty Twum Ampofo.

He said, “the group has decided to put up a hospital in every district to complement the government’s one district, one factory policy because if there are no good health facilities across the country workers would suffer a lot,” he said.

Mr  Acquah observed that in most communities outside of major towns, residents travel long distances before gaining access to healthcare, a situation that was not good for the country.

He said the Community Hospital Group was committed to improving healthcare in the country and had demonstrated its capabilities over the past eight years since it began operating.

He said the group currently run eight health institutions with morgues located in the Greater Accra and Eastern regions.

For her part, MrsTwum Ampofo, who is also the Member of Parliament for the Abuakwa North Constituency, emphasised that the government saw the private sector as a key partner in development, and was as such determined to create an enabling environment for the sector to thrive.

She said the ambulance donated would ease movement of patients, especially in referring patients to tertiary hospitals for consultation, review or further action.

She said the donation of an ambulance to the hospital was in fulfilment of a promise she made about six months ago during the inauguration of the Kukurantumi Community Hospital.

There are community hospitals currently operating in the Ashongman Estates, Kaneshie and Ashaiman, all in the Greater Accra Region and at Akyem Oda and Kukurantumi in the Eastern Region.
