Communications Ministry appoints cyber security advisor

A Cyber security expert with the Interpol Global Cybercrime Expert Group (IGCEG), Mr Albert Antwi-Boasiako, has been appointed as the Cyber Security Advisor of the Ministry of Communications.

He is to oversee the implementation of the National Cyber Security Policy and Strategy (NCSPS).

The decision to appoint Mr Antwi-Boasiako as advisor to the ministry is part of measures by the ministry to build a comprehensive cyber security management architecture that will coordinate cyber security services and advise the government on cyber security issues.

A statement issued by the Ministry of Communications explained that the current technological environment required the urgent implementation of important cyber security activities and programmes to address the country’s cyber security challenges “and Mr Antwi-Boasiako is expected to assist the ministry to implement the policy in this regard”.

Expertise

Mr Antwi-Boasiako, who is a visiting lecturer in Cybercrimes, Cyberterrorism and Cyber Security at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre, is also involved in cyber security and forensics.

He is an expert with the Council of Europe’s Global Action on Cybercrime Extended (GLACY+) Project and an Adjunct Lecturer in Cybercrimes, Cyberterrorism and Digital Forensics at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

He is also a Research Associate of the African Centre for Cyberlaw & Cybercrime Prevention in Kampala, Uganda, and also a faculty member of the Ghana Police Command & Staff College in Winneba.

Education

Mr Antwi-Boasiako had his first degree from the University of Trento in Italy and did postgraduate studies at the University of Portsmouth, United Kingdom (UK).

He worked with the Europe, Middle East and Africa Market of DFLabs, a global cyber security firm based in Milan, Italy, and is currently a Ph.D Research Fellow with the University of Pretoria in South Africa.

He has broad knowledge and professional experience in cyber security, particularly with public sector/government agencies, law enforcement/security, international organisations and the private sector.
