Chinese Embassy commends Graphic

A counsellor at the Chinese Embassy, Mr Jiang Zhouteng, has commended the Daily Graphic for its vital role in enhancing national development and cohesion with a high level of influence and wide coverage of activities in the country.

He said the Daily Graphic does not only promote Ghana’s culture and all sectors of the economy but also promotes bilateral relations, including Sino-Ghana relations.

Mr Jiang made the commendation when he paid a courtesy call on the Editor of the Daily Graphic, Mr Ransford Tetteh, in Accra last Friday.

The visit was to explore ways that the two parties could work for their mutual benefit.

Promoting bilateral relations

He said the Daily Graphic promotes bilateral relations between Ghana and China through its publications to enhance a better understanding of the mutual relations.

He cited the coverage of the recent G20 Summit in China as one of the ways in which the newspaper encouraged relations between Ghana and China.

Mr Jiang thanked the paper for also promoting bilateral relations between Ghana and China through its various publications, saying: “We appreciate your efforts and we hope we will continue to work together.”

Concerning the 2016 general election, he said the government of China wishes Ghana well and urged Ghanaians to maintain the country’s peace before, during and after the elections.

Welcoming the counsellor to his office, Mr Tetteh commended China for the training support given to Ghanaian journalists over the years, saying that the Daily Graphic had benefitted greatly from it.

He said the paper and the Chinese Embassy had had fruitful relations over the years, which had resulted in their mutual benefit.

As the elections approach, he said, the Daily Graphic is seeking support to ensure that its mandate of giving equal coverage to all presidential candidates and political parties is achieved.

He, therefore, appealed to the Chinese Embassy for support to enable it to execute that mandate, as well as ensure fair coverage of the elections.

Mr Tetteh expressed the hope that in spite of the expected keen contest for positions during the polls, Ghanaians would again hold successful polls to deepen the country’s democratic governance.
