Children of deceased security officers receive Lebanese Community scholarship
The Lebanese Community in Ghana, in collaboration with the Lebanese Embassy, has awarded 31 scholarships to children of personnel of the Police, Prisons and Immigration Services who died in the line of duty.

At the ceremony held at the Police headquarters, the Lebanese Ambassador to Ghana, Mr Ali Halabi, hailed the efforts of Ghana’s security forces to maintain peace in the country and beyond and expressed his profound gratitude to the leadership of those agencies.
“In support of the hard work of these gallant men and women, I am here today, on behalf of the Lebanese Community in Ghana, to award 31 scholarships to the sons and daughters of our brave heroes,” he stated.
Mr Halabi expressed his support for government’s free education policy, indicating that it was a step in the right direction for the country’s development.
“I am aware of your government’s unflinching support for the provision of free and quality education for all young people of school age in Ghana. The Lebanese Community shares in your government’s vision and will continue to support these students who will contribute to the development of the country,” Mr Halabi said.
The Interior Minister, Mr Ambrose Dery, who graced the occasion, acknowledged the harsh living conditions of families who had lost their breadwinners.
Commendation
Mr Dery, therefore, commended the Lebanese community for the timely gesture of coming to the aid of these families and for their investment in the economy of the country.
“In the course of my work as Minister of the Interior, I have encountered many Lebanese nationals who are contributing to our economy in many ways. I also know that some of the Lebanese families have been in Ghana for over 100 years and are contributing positively towards the country’s progress,” he said.
He praised the Lebanese Community for their humanitarian efforts to help alleviate the suffering and discomfort of the less privileged, and called on the diplomatic corps and all well-meaning Ghanaians to emulate the gesture to better the lives of the unfortunate ones in the society.
Appreciation
The Inspector General of Police, Mr David Asante-Apeatu, also lauded the Lebanese Community for their continuous support for the various security agencies.
The heads of the Immigration and Prison Services also expressed their profound gratitude to the Lebanese Ambassador and the Lebanese Community in Ghana for the benevolence towards the family of the fallen heroes.
In addition to the provision of scholarships for the children of the martyrs, the Lebanese Community also sponsors some students in the University of Ghana, the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, the Ghana Institute of Journalism and the Ghana School of Law.
