Chief gives land for hostel construction for national service persons

The Chief of Effiduasi in the Sekyere- East District in the Ashanti Region, Nana Adu Ameyaw, has released a plot of land freely for the construction of a hostel for national service persons who would be posted to the district.

Nana Ameyaw gave out the land when the 20015/2016 year group of national service personnel, who had completed their service in the district, paid a courtesy call on him to bid him farewell at his palace.

Present at the ceremony was the queenmother of Effiduasi, Nana Konadu Yiadom,

Nana Ameyaw said he decided to give out the land for a hostel because service persons posted to the district always had problems with their accommodation considering that majority of houses in the district were family units without sufficient spaces.

He expressed the belief that a hostel would reduce the bad experiences some of them went through with regard to accommodation.

He emphasised further that it would help a great deal if service persons saved a part of the allowances they received into a fund that would be used for purposes of securing lodgings for them.

Nana Ameyaw has consequently urged the National Service Secretariat to take advantage of the land offered to promptly construct a hostel for service persons posted to the district.

Kind gesture

The Ashanti Regional Director of the National Service Scheme, Mrs Jennifer Appiah-Bempah, on behalf of the outfit, thanked Nana Ameyaw for his kind gesture.

She further commended the chief for his cordial relationship with persons posted to the district. She expressed the hope that such warm and friendly disposition would continue.

Mrs Appiah-Bempah called on other philanthropists to assist the scheme with donations both in kind and in cash to enable it to complete the hostel project as soon as possible.

The District Director of Education in the Sekyere-East District, Nana Otuo Acheampong, also expressed his gratitude to Nana Ameyaw for releasing the plot of land to the National Service Secretariat.

He observed that persons posted to the district were making enormous contributions to the development of the area, particularly in the field of education.

He expressed the readiness of the district directorate of education to cooperate with the chiefs and service persons at all times in order that teaching and learning in schools in the area could be improved.

Appreciation

The District Director of the National Service Scheme, Mr Joseph Rowland Amoah, and the President of the 2015/2016 year group of the national service personnel association, Nana Omane Boateng, together signed a citation that was presented to Nana Ameyaw by Mrs Appiah-Bempah.

The citation expressed the association’s gratitude to Nana Ameyaw for his hospitality to service persons that were sent to work in the district.

Mrs Appiah-Bempah appealed to the District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr Kwadwo Addae, to assist with the construction of a hostel for service persons posted to the district.

For his part, Mr Addae said the assembly was always in for development and, as such, pledged the assembly’s support towards making the hostel facility a reality and commended Nana Ameyaw for his benevolence.
