Chief, elders of Sanzule call on President Akufo-Addo

The chief and elders of Sanzule in the Nzema East District in the Western Region yesterday paid a courtesy call on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. The call was intended for the chief to extend an invitation to the President to attend their upcoming Ayikese, (grand funeral), an occasion for the people to remember all their departed chiefs and other individuals who sacrificed their lives and resources to build Sanzule.

The Benkumhene of Sanzule, Nana Asafo Boakye III, told the President that the celebration of the departed chiefs was long overdue, but the time had now come for them to recognise the great contributions the chiefs made for the development of the land.

Contrary to rumours that the area was now a ghost town, Nana Boakye said, “the town is not dead but alive. The chiefs who passed away left a legacy for the generations to continue, for which reason the new generation is organising the grand funeral in their honour.”

Invitation to the President

Nana Boakye III also extended a formal invitation to President Akufo-Addo to be part of the ceremony and also use the opportunity to visit and familiarise himself with the people.

He said the people of the area had set aside February 23 to March 4, 2017 for the festivities and expressed the hope that the event would be a memorable occasion.

The chief also said the occasion would be used to drum home the importance of unity, peace and stability in achieving growth and prosperity.

He noted that Ghana needed peace to develop, adding that the people ought to endeavour to support the ruling government to achieve its vision and objectives to ensure national development.

President to attend Ayikese

President Akufo-Addo thanked the chief and elders for the invitation and said it was important for communities to recognise the roles played by their forefathers who suffered, toiled and died for their lands.

He commended the people of the area for the initiative taken to honour their heroes and assured them of his attendance.

He also used the opportunity to stress the government’s resolve to grow the economy, create jobs and build factories in each district to enhance economic activities and national development.
