Among the mourners were the chiefs and people of Santrokofi and its neighbouring communities, as well as the classmates of the deceased and a host of reverend ministers.

Notwithstanding a shower during the burial service, the mourners were glued to their seats as they listened to the burial service delivered by Rev. Godman Delali from the Evangelical Presbyterian (EP) Church.

He said in spite of the heavy working schedules of the deceased, he regularly visited his kinsmen and supported them in various ways, making him a role model to the youth.

He, therefore, charged members of the Christian community to lead morally upright lives that merited the Kingdom of God, saying “remember that after death , there is judgement . That is why you need to repent from your sins at a time you are full of life.”

Mr Ablekpe began his career with the Daily Graphic as a reporter on March 15, 1982. He was first posted to the Kumasi office and later to Obuasi as the first reporter of the new district office.

He was promoted to the position of a senior reporter on January 1,1986 following which he was transferred to Kumasi to act as the regional editor when the substantive, Mr Albert Sam, travelled to Paris for a nine-month international journalism programme.

In 1990, he was promoted to the position of staff writer and five years later, became a senior staff writer.

On April, 30, 1999, the company commended him and two others for the conscientious manner in which they approached the duties assigned them towards the production of the special souvenir edition of the Daily Graphic on the coronation of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

He rose to the position of a principal staff writer and was nominated in 2004 for the Best Writer Award and was later transferred to the head office where he assumed many positions, including regional page editor, regional news co-ordinator, political page editor and later, the metro page editor.

He was transferred to the sub-desk in 2013 where he continued to work until his retirement on April 23, 2014. Mr Ablekpe left behind a wife and five children.
