The Paramount Chief of the Bongo Traditional Area, Bo-Naba Baba Salifu Aleeyarum disclosed this during this year's  annual celebration of the Azambene festival of the chiefs and people of the Bongo Traditional Area in the Upper East Region.

ICT for development

The festival, which was on the theme: 'Information and Communication Technology (ICT), a key to rapid development', was attended by the Upper East Regional Minister, Mr Albert Abongo; Ghana's Ambassadors to Cuba and Nigeria, Mr John Akologo Tia and Mr William Akanyiri; the Chief Executive Officer of the Savanna Accelerated Development Authority (SADA), Mr Charles Abugre, assembly members, security commanders and heads of departments in the district.

"The idea, Mr Chairman, this year, is to include information in the development of education in the district. You will agree with me that there is no way a community will develop these days without ICT, considering the level of technology these days".

Invest in education of youth

He said resources provided to improve the character formation of the youth through education was a wise investment, and urged parents and development partners to make the education of the youth a topmost priority.

He said the character of the youth was being influenced negatively by contemporary social issues, including drug abuse, criminal activities, academic under-achievement and school dropouts, and it was through education that this could be redeemed.

Government's infrastructure development

The regional minister said the government had embarked on massive educational infrastructural development since 2009.

"The Community Day School currently being constructed at Azeem Namoo is a demonstration of the commitment of  the government to adequately meet the needs and aspirations of the people of this constituency."

When completed, he said, the Azeem Namoo Community Day School will become one of the biggest senior high schools in the region.

He said the school, since 2013, had also benefited from the construction of a two-storey 12-unit classroom block, two-storey dormitory block for girls, two-bedroom semi-detached quarters for tutors, two-storey administration block, a library and ICT blocks.
