Be guided by Komla's commitment to excellence -Palmer-Buckle counsels youth

Metropolitan Archbishop of Accra, Most Rev. Gabriel Charles Palmer-Buckle has urged the youth to be guided by the model of commitment displayed by the late Komla Afeke Dumor in their strive for excellence.

Delivering the sermon at the solemn requiem mass held at the Holy Spirit Cathedral in Accra, Bishop Palmer-Buckle urged the youth to walk in the footsteps of Komla Dumor to lift the flag of Africa high.

“And now to you the many young ones…Komla was surely an icon for the youth, a model in his commitment to excellence. Let me exalt you my young people to walk in the footsteps of Komla. Africa needs you our young people to be committed to this continent. Africa needs you my young people. Africa needs more young ones to fill in the shoes that Komla has left and to lift up the flag of Africa still higher,” he said.

To the Dumor family, Bishop Palmer-Buckle encouraged them  to take the occasion of Komla’s death as a period to renew their faith in God while believing in the resurrection story.

The solemn requiem mass for the late Komla Dumor began this morning and a public viewing of the body is ongoing to enable many people, particularly the youth, to pay their last respects to him.

A liturgical service will be held at the Forecourt of the State House on Saturday, February 22, 2014, followed by a private family burial.

The curtains will be drawn on the funeral rites with a thanksgiving service at the Holy Spirit Cathedral, on Sunday, February 23, 2014.

Komla Dumor, 41, died in his London home on Saturday, January 18, this year.

The body was flown to Ghana on February 3, 2014.

Born in Accra on October 3, 1972, Dumor graduated from the University of Ghana with a BSc in Sociology and Psychology, after studying medicine initially.

The impact of his death has been felt among a broad spectrum of both Ghanaians and non-Ghanaians in the past few days, not only because of its sudden nature but also because as a journalist, he had made a mark unsurpassed by many within a short time of plying that trade.
