The presentation followed a request made by the unit to help it provide a conducive working environment to offer quality services to clients who visit the department.

The donation was also in appreciation of efforts by management of the hospital for creating a specialised mental health unit to offer specialised services to patients.

Mental health

The Executive Director of BasicNeeds Ghana, Mr Peter Yaro, who made the presentation, stated that, “We want to see mental health as part and parcel of general healthcare service and not only for the psychiatric hospital. Because when we do that there is better integration and distribution of resources while the stigma associated with mental health issues is reduced.”

Mr Yaro commended the management of the hospital for their cooperation and pledged his organisation’s continuous support to the facility to achieve its intended objectives.

Mr Emmanuel Asare, a nursing officer who received the air conditioners, said the mental unit was opened in May this year and was providing outpatient services, including consultations and counselling.

Mr Asare therefore expressed his gratitude to BasicNeeds for coming to their aid and pledged the commitment of the hospital to maintain the equipment.
