Asuomhemaa reigns for 75 years - Durbar to celebrate her in October

The Queenmother of Akyem Asuom in the Kwaebibirem District in the Eastern Region, Nana Yaa Anamah II, has been identified as the longest-serving female traditional ruler in the area.

According to a research conducted by the Office of Nana Adutwumwaa Dokua, the Okyenhemaa, Nana Anamah had been the queenmother of Akyem Asuom for the past 75 years.

In a press statement, the Okyenhemaa said it was rare for a queenmother to use her whole life in serving her people.

“In consultation with the chiefs and the people of Asuom, a grand durbar has been scheduled to be organised at Asuom on Saturday, October 28, 2017 to honour the over 100 years old Nana Anamah for her dedication and service to humanity,” it stated.

Purpose

The programme seeks to render gratitude to God and celebrate the achievements of Nana Anamah for her services.

The theme for the event will be: “Celebrating a traditional leadership of excellence: The role of women in modern chieftaincy”.

Personalities to grace the occasion include President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and his wife, Mrs Rebecca Akufo- Addo; former President Jerry John Rawlings and his wife, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings; Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin II, the Okyenhene; Nana Adutwumwaa Dokua, the Okyenhemaa, and all queenmothers of Akyem Abuakwa; Osabarima Ofosuhene Apenteng II, the Asuomhene; ministers of state, Members of Parliament (MPs) and all chiefs and people of Akyem Abuakwa.
