Odaman Association in the United States of America (USA) has donated 10 wheelchairs valued at GH¢5,000 to the Akyem Oda Government Hospital.

The Chairman of the association, Mr Emmanuel Amponsah, and an executive member of the association, Madam Grace Asante (Nana Akua), jointly made the presentation at a ceremony at Akyem Oda last Wednesday.

Mr Amponsah advised the management of the hospital to take proper care of the items to prolong their lifespan.

He said the donation of the wheelchairs marked the beginning of many good things the association had planned for the hospital to uplift its image.

According to Mr Amponsah, the association will  dispatch a high-powered delegation to Oda in July 2017 to donate more equipment to the hospital.

He appealed to Oda citizens in other parts of the world to help the hospital operate efficiently.

The acting Medical Superintendent of the hospital, Dr Atta Larbi-Sakyi, who received the items, praised the donors and promised to put them to good use.

He mentioned the lack of an ambulance, an isolation ward, accommodation for relatives who attend to their sick people on admission and an oxygen concentrator as some of the challenges of the hospital.

Dr Larbi-Sakyi also complained about the lack of equipment in the operating theatre constructed by the previous government.

He, therefore, appealed to the Odaman USA Association, the government and non-governmental organisations to provide the needed equipment for the new operating theatre to enable it to offer better services.

Dr Larbi-Sakyi also appealed to the government to pay money owed the hospital by the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) to ensure the smooth operation of the facility.

The hospital’s management committee Chairman, Elder Joe Mensah, also praised the association for the gesture and appealed to the members to strive to provide the hospital with an oxygen bay which is urgently needed at the facility.
