The two projects, put up at a cost of GH¢367,159.49, were funded through the Asante Akim Central Municipal Assembly’s share of the District Development Fund.

Each of the compounds has a mechanised borehole water system and water reservoir installed to enhance its operations.

The CHPS compound at Kramokrom would serve the health needs of the Anuruso and Adum communities, while that of Boatengkrom would serve the communities of Dwease, Nyamebekyere, Tutukrom and Praso. Previously, the residents of these communities had to travel long distances, including as far as Konongo, to receive health care.

The Asante Akim Central Municipal Director of Health Services, Mr Martin Osei Sarfo, said the construction of the compounds was motivated by the need to bring health care closer to the people.

According to him, the closeness of the facilities to the people would ease the burden of high cost in transporting patients to health facilities and reduce travel difficulties that particularly the sick faced.

He appealed to residents of the beneficiary communities to patronise the centres and desist from travelling to Konongo and other hospitals, since that would defeat the purpose of the huge investment in the two facilities.

Mr Osei Sarfo urged the people to ensure that the buildings were properly maintained for them to last long.

The projects

The Municipal Chief Executive for Asante Akim Central, Alhaji Braimah Boyong, assured residents of the area that the assembly was ready to provide the needed infrastructure that would improve the standard of living of the people.

He said the assembly was also putting up two additional compounds at Chechebiase and Kyekyewere.

The two projects, which were expected to be completed soon, would increase the number of health facilities in the municipality, he assured.

According to him, there were plans to acquire a new ambulance to serve the needs of health facilities in the municipality.

Alhaji Boyong said ensuring that the people were having quality health care was a priority of the government. As such, he said, the government would continue to provide the needed support to health institutions.

He urged the people, especially the youth, not to allow themselves to be used to foment trouble before, during and after the election but strive to maintain the peace currently existing in the municipality.

The Chief of Dwease, Nana Owusu Banahene, was full of praise to the assembly for the support it had been extending to the health sector, which he said would go a long way to enhance productivity.

Nana Banahene urged health personnel posted to the CHPS compounds to work very hard and educate the people on preventive health so that there would not be the need to spend much money in seeking health care.
