Artisans trained in IT to advertise their products

Forty artisans drawn from Asawase in the Asokore Mampong Municipality in the Ashanti Region have been trained in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to enhance their work.

The training programme, which is being undertaken by the Ghana Investment Fund Electronic Communication (GIFEC), has the objective of providing the participants with skills that will make them capable of marketing and advertising making their enterprises and products on the internet.

They artisans are part of a membership of  2,000 who are being trained in ICT across the country.

Participants were trained in basic computing skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and Spreadsheet.

Speaking at the end of the training programme at Asawase, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of GIFEC, Mr Kobby Acheampong, said in view of the fast pace with which technology was developing, it was for artisans who formed the largest segment of business in the economy to aquire knowledge in ICT else they would be left out. 

He said artisans remained an important segment of the Ghanaian population and that training them on ICT would enhance the development of the nation.

He indicated that GIFEC would be spending GH¢140,000 on all the 2,000 artisan trainees; GH¢70,000 on each of the week’s training.

He urged the trainees to take their lessons serious and use their ICT knowledge to cause a paradigm shift in the commerce industry in the country.

ICT world makes life easy

Both the Member of Parliament (MP) for Asawase, Alhaji Mohammend Mubarak Muntaka and the Asokore Mampong Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Alhaji Nurudeen Hamidan said that the ICT world had made life easy.

They expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Communications and GIFEC for collaborating to resource artisans to undergo ICT training.
