Argument lands man in trouble

Had Richard Nii Armah known that an argument with his neighbour will lead him into paying a fine of GH¢ 1, 440 or in default serve six months in jail, he would have had a second thought.

The argument attracted the attention of the police, who found a polythene bag containing 11 wrappers of Indian hemp in his pocket.

Armah was, therefore, sentenced by the court, presided over by Mr Aboagye Tandoh, on the charge of using narcotic drug.

Armah, before the sentence, pleaded with the court to have mercy on him because he had already been in jail for six months.

He also prayed the court to temper justice with mercy because he had to cater for his child.

“Please have mercy on me because I have to work to take care of my child,’’ he pleaded.

The facts of the case as presented by the prosecutor, Chief Inspector Kwabena Adu, were that on April 20, 2016, the Odorkor police command during a routine patrol found Armah embroiled in a heated argument with a neighbour at Gbawe-Bulemi.

The prosecutor said the police arrested the two for the act.

“During a search, the police discovered a polythene bag containing 11 wrappers of Indian hemp concealed in his pocket,’’ he said.

Mr Adu said Armah admitted ownership of the Indian hemp during his caution statement to the police.

“He asserted that he smokes the illicit substance to boost his moral before he commences work every day,’’ the prosecutor said.
