Anti-Corruption Network undergoes accountability training

The Ghana Anti-Corruption Coalition (GACC), in collaboration with the Centre for Democratic Development (CDD), has trained 60 Local Anti-Corruption Network (LANET) members in the Northern Region in how to hold duty-bearers accountable in the discharge of their duties.

The LANET members comprise leaders from various interest groups.

The exercise formed part of a project dubbed: "I Am Aware (IAA)".

The project is aimed at empowering the citizenry, particularly the LANET members, with information on their districts, constituencies and regions.

This is to enable them to play active roles in decision-making processes in their respective districts and regions.

They were also taken through the processes of accessing information on IAA website.

Beneficiaries

The acting Executive Secretary of GACC, Mrs Beauty Emefa Narteh, said the project was currently being implemented in 28 districts across the country.

She said the 60 participants were drawn from four districts, namely; Tamale Metropolis, Savelugu-Nanton Municipality, West Mamprusi and West Gonja districts.

Importance

Mrs Nartey further explained that the programme was significant, since it provided user-friendly information on the various districts and regions.

She added that the IAA also makes available free, accessible information on the state of affairs and service delivery in districts, constituencies and regions across the country.

The executive secretary further indicated that the programme would help the participants to clearly identify the roles of duty-bearers and the responsibilities of the ordinary person.

The Savelugu focal person for IAA, Hajia Alima Sagito, said the project would create the platform for the various youth and interest groups to work for the benefit of the people.

"This project will make citizens play active roles in their own development," she said.
