The amount, a combination of disability funds from the first and second quarters of the assembly's 2016 DACF, was disbursed in fulfilment of the mandatory two per cent of the DACF, to support persons with disability.

Beneficiaries

The beneficiaries received individual cheques for GH¢400. 00 or GH¢300.00, depending on what the receiver intends to do.

This year, the assembly, through the Department of Social Welfare and the Association of Persons with Disability in the district, organised PWDs in three different groups to receive their financial support at separate presentations at Manso Adubia and Antoakrom.

The District Director of Social Welfare, Mr Osei Kufour, will soon lead the assembly to disburse funds to the third group of PWDs at Ahwerewa.

Presentation ceremonies

The District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr Alex Bonsu, was assisted by the District Co-ordinating Director, Alhaji Mohammed Harding, and the Presiding Member of the assembly, Mr Akuoko Kwarteng, to present the cheques to the beneficiaries.

He advised the beneficiaries to use the financial support for profitable ventures, pointing out that it was about time PDWs stopped begging on the street.

He said though the amounts were small, with proper planning, the beneficiaries could do great things with the token they had received.

He mentioned that President John Dramani Mahama was desirous of improving the living conditions of Ghanaians, including PWDs, and called on society not to throw away PWDs but to see them as one family and give them the necessary support.
