Agric forum held in Yilo Krobo

An NGO, Mobilisation Action towards Agricultural Sector Improvement (MAASI), in collaboration with Rite FM, a local radio station in Somanya, have jointly held a forum for farmers in Somanya in the Yilo Krobo Municipality in the Eastern Region. 

The forum created a common platform for stakeholders in agriculture, mainly farmers, agribusiness service providers and financial organisations to learn and share ideas on good practices. 

There was also an exhibition of various agricultural products. 

The event, dubbed: “Rite 90.1 FM Agric forum 2016’’, was funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Agricultural Policy Support Programme (APSP).

Topics

Participants discussed ways to increase agricultural activities in the Eastern Region through media advocacy, sustainable food security and increased involvement of NGOs in the Krobo communities, among other topics.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Rite FM, Mr Jonnie Addo-Fening, said the programmes of the station were geared towards rural development and sustainable food security through strategic media advocacy, community-based mobilisation for capacity building and agricultural policy sensitisation.

Commendation

The Yilo Krobo Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr Andrews Sodah, commended the organisers of the forum for the initiative and said it would go a long way to boost agricultural activities in the area.

The chairman of the National Farmers and Fishermen Award Winners Association of Ghana (NFFAWAG), Nene Davis Narh Korboe, observed that the agricultural sector was significant for the accelerated development of the country and entreated the leadership of the various political parties to outline their vision for farmers and the sector in their campaign messages.
