Agortime-Ziope District has new school buildings

Agortime-Ziope District has new school buildings

The Agortime-Ziope District now has three new school buildings. The buildings were constructed for a school which held classes under trees and two others in dilapidated conditions.

Two of the school buildings at Wodome and Astrulume were constructed through a partnership between a non-governmental organisation (NGO), Pencils of Promise (PoP), and the district assembly. The other one at Akpokope was constructed solely by the district assembly with finances from the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF).

Addressing separate ceremonies to inaugurate the schools, the Agortime-Ziope District Chief Executive, Mr Michael Kobla Adzaho, urged the people to cherish and protect the schools and ensure that they were maintained in order for them to last  long.

End of interrupted classes

He said with the school buildings now completed, lessons were no longer going to be interrupted by the vagaries of the weather and distractions which invariably led to poor performance by the pupils.

Mr Adzaho urged the pupils in the schools to study hard and encouraged the teachers to exhibit high professional standards in their work.

Past experiences

The Headmaster of the Wodome Salvation Army Basic School, Mr Ephraim Dzah, in  a speech, said their toils were over and their tears wiped away. He said teachers in the school had been spared the situation of predicting the weather each day before classes began.

He said the Wodome community had received great relief by way of the completion of the school building and expressed his gratitude to the institutions that supported the construction works.

PoP activities

The Country Director of PoP, Mr Freeman Gobah, said the organisation was currently operating in 17 districts in the Volta Region, with Agortime-Ziope as the largest recipient of its assistance package.

He encouraged the community to consider constructing duty posts for teachers as a way of attracting them to live and teach there.

Caution to teachers

The Volta Regional Director of the Salvation Army School, Mr Richard Kudedzi, cautioned teachers to not put up a lukewarm attitude towards their work as that kind of behaviour would not be countenanced in any Salvation Army school.

He pledged to get the kindergarten section of the school furnished and provided with the needed learning materials.

The Chief of Wodome, Togbe Gidi IV, chaired the occasion and commended Pencils of Promise for its immense assistance to the people of the area.
