This year’s event took the form of ‘twin parties’ thrown at two different locations: Agona Nsaba and Agona Suromanya on the theme: ‘I make a difference.’

Ms Sawyerr altogether hosted 1000 widows and 300 orphans at both parties, some of whom were physically challenged. Each of them was given packed food, drinks, bottled water and an envelope containing an undisclosed amount.

The MP, popularly known in her constituency as Obaatanpa, also gave the widows a half piece of cloth each.

Screening exercise

Mobile clinics were also available for screening beneficiaries for malaria and high blood pressure. They also went through detoxification, after which some of them were given medicines to manage their conditions.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) MP, who was the Deputy Central regional minister in the Mahama administration, said she had always been concerned about the plight of widows, orphans and the physically challenged.

She advised persons with disability against begging for alms and said they should rather channel such efforts at acquiring skills to better their lot.

The MP also expressed her readiness to support them.

Satisfaction

According to Ms Sawyer, “I wanted to bring happiness to people like you and my observation tells me you are happy.

“This is exactly what I intended to achieve.”

Commendation

The President of the Agona Nsaba Traditional Council, Omanhen Bishop Boappiah, commended the MP for consistently organising the Easter Monday parties over the years.

“You are truly Obaatanpa. We thank you for this yearly gesture, as well as your efforts at developing our area,” Omanhen Boappiah said.

A citation, with the theme: ‘Don’t give up,’ was presented to the MP by the Queenmother of Agona Nsaba, Nana Adjoa Nkansah Eduam, on behalf of the chiefs and people of the area as a token of appreciation for her efforts.
