Aglow prays against corruption in nation

AGLOW International last Saturday held its monthly intercessory prayers for the country, calling on God to strengthen the government to take bold steps to weed out corruption and other nation-wrecking activities among the citizens.

In particular, the group sought God's intervention for the government to be able to crack the whip on persons who have been cited in the Auditor-General's Report to have variously misused public funds, to serve as a deterrent to others.

As early as 7a.m., hundreds of patrons from all walks of life had gathered at the Black Star Square in Accra for the monthly prayer session that began on a rather bustling note as prayers of supplication, thanksgiving and protection were said.

Members of Aglow said intercessory prayers for the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the security agencies and other key stakeholders who were leading the fight against illegal mining, stressing the need to sustain the fight against the menace to salvage the country's land and water resources.

Intercession

Led by its National Payer Coordinator, Mrs Gifty Affenyi-Dadzie, the group sought God's intervention to expose "wicked people whose activities are plunging the country into a state of lawlessness."

Amid tooting of horns and hoisting of miniature national flags, Aglow International prayed against threats of terrorism in the country as well as the activities of vigilante groups that posed nagging security challenges for the government.

Stressing the theme: "Ghana, go to the Lord in prayer and worship Him continuously (Psalm 105:4)," the group prayed against national calamities that could claim innocent lives and shake the foundation of the country.

"We shut the mouth of the unjust and ask that the executive, legislature and judicial arms of government will sit up in their duties and weed out bad nuts that lead the country astray," Mrs Affenyi-Dadzie declared as she led the prayer topic for God's guidance for the arms of government.

Security

In other prayer schedules, a Pastor with Aglow International, Rev. Emelia Boadi Darkwah, prayed for the security at the country's borders, asking God to protect the country from any form of external attack.

"We forbid any warning of the devil against the development of this country from materialising because God is our shield," she declared.

The group drew inspiration from biblical texts such as Micah 7:6, Micah 5:9, Job 20:27, and Psalm 64:2 and prayed to God give the the country leaders who were truthful, trustworthy and diligent in their actions.

Specific prayers were said for the 10 regions hitting on key development challenges such as ethnic conflicts, chieftaincy disputes, unnecessary partisanship and the use of violence in times of misunderstanding.
