According to him, the awareness created on the prevalence of TB had not been adequate although the disease had claimed many lives over the years.

Chief Obiefuna made the call at a health walk held in Accra to mark the 20th Conference of the Africa Union Region.

The health walk, organised by the Afro Global Alliance in collaboration with some parliamentarians in Africa was meant to create awareness on TB.

Over 50 parliamentarians who attended the conference of the Africa Union Region participated in the two-hour walk which started from the Accra International Conference Centre, through the Ministries to the National Theatre and back to the Conference Centre.

Other speakers

Former President of the Africa Union Region, Jaue Carter, who took part in the walk, noted that the awareness created would help to eliminate the disease from the system.

She said the upsurge of the disease in Africa was worrying; hence,  the organisation of such an event to educate the people.

For his part, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ho West, Mr Emmanuel Kwesi Bedzrah, encouraged scientists, doctors and other health workers to do all they could to ensure that the disease was eliminated by 2035.

An MP from Zimibabwe, Dr Ruth Labode and the co-chair of Global Parliamentarians Against TB, said it was a landmark for parliamentarians to gather and create awareness about the prevalence of the disease which had claimed many lives.
