Adansi gets Chief Imam

The Muslim community in the Adansi Traditional Area in the Ashanti Region now has a new Chief Imam.

 Alhaji Yussif Iddris has been inducted as the Chief Imam for the Adansi area, particularly the Obuasi Municipality.

He succeeds Alhaji Osman who passed away in 1994 and is expected to lead over 300,000 Muslims in Adansi.


At a ceremony to officially induct him into office, Alhaji Iddris was decorated with a turban and presented with a special staff and a Koran by a representative of the Ashanti Regional Chief Imam, Alhaji Ahmed Rufai.


The Sarki Zongo (Chief of Zongo) in the Adansi Traditional Area, Alhaji Jibril Ibrahim, inducted the new chief imam and five deputies into office.


The five deputies are Mallam Alhassan Mubarak (First Deputy), Alhaji Abdallah Adam (Second Deputy), Alhaji Suleman Daud (Third Deputy), Mallam Hussein Bn Yakub (Fourth Deputy) and Mallam Mohammed Awal Mussah (Fifth Deputy).


Alhaji Ibrahim asked for Allah’s blessings for the new imam and his deputies and charged them to do only that which was good in order to attract investments into the Zongo communities in Adansi.


He also charged them to work diligently and always be at peace with all.

Alhaji Ibrahim said it was incumbent on the new imam and his team to live up to expectation.


He urged them to abide in the truth always for “Allah is the Truth”.


He praised political parties, particularly the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), for their support to Zongo communities.

Brother Isaac Inkoom, who represented the Christian community at the ceremony, pledged the support of Christians for the new Chief Imam and his deputies.


He said Christians and Muslims had co-existed peacefully in the Adansi area and called on all to make the relationship between the two a sustainable one.


The Member of Parliament for Obuasi East, Dr Boakye Yiadom, and a former Municipal Chief Executive for Obuasi, Mr John Alexander Ackon, welcomed the new Chief Imam and his deputies and pledged to support them in their work.
