Act as ambassadors of peace -- Catholic Bishops Conference

The Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference (GCBC), has asked Muslims to use the occasion of Eid-il-Adha to act as ambassadors of peace.

According to the group, Eid-il-Adha is a feast of festival or sacrifice for Muslims all over the world and those in Ghana are no exception.

As a result, it said the occasion was an opportunity for all Muslims to preach peace wherever they were.

The President of the GCBC, Most Rev. Joseph Osei-Bonsu, gave the advice when he delivered a goodwill message to Muslims all over the country in a phone interview with the Daily Graphic in Accra on Tuesday.

Most Rev. Osei-Bonsu, who is also the Bishop of Konongo Mampong, also extended his goodwill message to the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharabutu, and wished all Muslims in Ghana a successful Eid-il-Adha.

He asked for Allah’s blessings and long life for all Muslims.

“As Muslims commemorate this wonderful day, I wish them all the best and ask for Allah’s continuous blessings upon their lives in everything they do,” he said.

Sober reflection

In the view of Most Rev. Osei-Bonsu, the occasion was a unique one, “as such Muslims ought to take a sober reflection as they commemorate the day.”

He further wished Muslims, who had embarked on the pilgrimage to the holy land of Mecca in Saudi Arabia, the very best.

He also called for peaceful co-existence between Muslims and Christians in all communities in the country, noting that the country had come far to allow disagreement to divide it.

Advice to youth

Most Rev. Osei-Bonsu used the occasion to advise the youth to refrain from activities that could lead to violence in the 2016 general election thereby derailing the peace the country was already enjoying.

“As we go to the polls this year, it’s important that the youth do not allow themselves to be used by politicians to perpetuate crimes,” he added.
