Accra Rotary Club, Orphan Care-Foundation support orphanages

Accra Rotary Club (ARC) of Osu Oxford Street and Orphan Care-Foundation (OCF) have donated items valued at GH¢15,000 to two orphanages in the Central Region. In addition, the two entities presented GH¢4,000 cash to assist the operations of the two homes.

Items including six bags of rice, two gallons of oil, 25 cartons of soft drinks,120 storybooks and exercise books, 120 school bags, and GH¢3,000 were given to the Royal Seed Children’s Home at Bawjiase.

The St Anna’s Family Home at Winneba received four bags of rice, two gallons of 25 litre cooking oil, 30 boxes of biscuits, 120 storybooks and exercise books, 120 school bags, toiletries and GH¢1,000.

Humanitarian activity

The President of the ARC, Mrs Ellen Ohene Afoakwa, said the essence of their visit was to spend time with children at the two orphanages to show them love and affection, adding: ‘’It is our pleasure to interact, inspire and encourage the children to aspire to higher heights in life.”

Mrs Afoakwa said the donation was part of the humanitarian activities of the club and was convinced that the items would go a long way to help the children.

She assured them that the club would return with more of such donations to help the children and to fulfil part of their humanitarian activities.

Challenges

Receiving the items, the Founder of the Royal Seed, Mrs Naomi Esi Amoah, expressed her appreciation for their kind gesture, adding that it had not been easy catering for the children.

“The greatest challenge is a vehicle to transport the children; sometimes when they fall sick in the night I have to take them from Kasoa to the Accra Children’s Hospital,” she said.

For his part, the President and Founder of the Orphan-Care Foundation Ghana, Mr Kofi Gyan Dom, said the donation was part of their organisation’s efforts to provide for the underprivileged in society.

The founder of St Anna’s family home, Mrs Emelia Nduom, commended the club for the donation and pledged to make the items useful.

She appealed to philanthropists and other non-governmental organisations (NGO) to come to their aid in order to take good care of the children.
