As at the time of filing this report, security officials at the scene of that devastation were exploring the possibility of transporting the bodies of some of the victims to the Police Hospital morgue.

It is not clear what started the fire that completely destroyed the filling station next to the GCB Bank Circle Tower branch, and also burnt several houses and shops, but eyewitnesses suspect fuel-laden floods could have imported the fire which trapped many who had sought refuge from torrential rains that cut off several communities from major roads.

The floods have also destroyed property across the country and in the capital in particular, leading to the death of dozens of people.

Meanwhile the Minister for Education, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has called on schools teachers and heads to protect students who are in schools in the flood-affected areas.

Mrs Opoku-Agyemang called on students who had not yet arrived in schools to stay home for the day.

President John Dramani Mahama has also expressed his shock and dismay at the disaster.
