Accident causes traffic on Tema motorway

An accident on the Tema-bound side of the Accra-Tema motorway on Tuesday afternoon left a trail of heavy traffic on both sides of the motorway during rush hour.

The crash, said to have happened around 4pm at the Trasacco area, involved two vehicles, a Toyota Hiace mini bus and a Metro Mass Transit (MMT) bus with registration number GC 1895-11.

The accident left many passengers aboard the Hiace injured. They were sent to various hospitals in Accra and Tema for treatment.

The Toyota Hiace with registration number GW 5937 R, which was said to be moving from Accra to Akuse in the Eastern region run into the MMT bus.

A police officer, Sergeant Eric Asare from the Airport Police station who was at the scene to control traffic told Graphic Online’s Isaac Yeboah that a female passenger on the front seat of the Hiace was thrown out through the windshield.

Traders' goods which were in the mini bus were scattered all the road and left a trail of heavy traffic on both sides of the motorway. The Toyota Hiace was badly mangled.

Another accident involving a tanker with registration number GN 9564-12 happened a few metres away from the second accident scene earlier in the day.

The tanker was still at the scene at the time of the second accident.
