Kofi Abeiku, Tofick Musah and Karim Latif where charged on three counts of conspiracy to commit crime, unlawful entry and stealing.

They pleaded guilty on all three counts when they appeared before an Accra Magistrate Court, presided over by Mr Isaac Addo, and were each fined GH¢1,200 or serve 18 months in prison.

Presenting the facts of the case to the court, Sergeant Lois Konadu said the complainant, Vivian Wemegah, is a trader at Omanjor, while Abeiku, Musah and Latif are unemployed and live at Agbogbloshie.

Sergeant Konadu said Vivian had a container shop at Omanjor where she sold cloths, materials and cosmetics.

He said on November 5, 2016, Vivian had a phone call from her neighbour that thieves had broken into her shop.

Vivian  rushed to her shop and detected that thieves had made away with 42 pieces of cloth worth GH¢4,000, one lady’s bag valued GH¢12.00 and assorted cosmetics valued GH¢20.00.

According to Sergeant Konadu, police conducting motor traffic checks that morning in front of the police station at Agbogbloshie spotted the three on board a taxi with some load in a fertiliser bag.

When the police started interrogating them, Musah took to his heels, but Abeiku and Latif were arrested.

Sergeant Konadu said when the fertiliser bag was opened, the police found 42 and half pieces of cloth, a lady’s bag, some cosmetics and two scarfs suspected to be stolen.

He said Abeiku and Latif told the police that they brought the items from Ablekuma. Later, Abeiku and Latif were handed over together with the exhibits to the Anyaa Police Station for investigation.

In the course of the investigation, Musah was arrested and he admitted they stole the exhibits from Vivian’s shop.

On November 7, 2016, Musah led the police to the crime scene and showed the police where they cut the container open and entered the shop and made away with the items.

Vivian later made a formal complaint to the police and identified the items as hers.
