3 Arrested for attacking forex bureau

Three men who allegedly attacked a customer at a forex bureau at Nungua in Accra have been busted.

The suspects, who were arrested with weapons, including two pistols, a shotgun and a pump action gun, are said to be behind two other robbery attacks on the Cocoa Palace Lodge and a company near the Nungua Senior High School.

Their names were given by the police as Stephen Bediako, 30; Kwaku Nuworpeh, 35, and Abass Fuseini, 23.

They are said to have laid ambush near the Cosmos Forex Bureau where they attacked the victim.

Attack

Briefing journalists in Accra, the Accra Regional Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Mr Timothy Yoosa Bonga, said the gang, who had information about their victim, laid ambush for him at the forex bureau.

He said soon after the victim arrived at the forex bureau, the gang attacked him at gunpoint and ordered him to hand over all the money in his possession, as well as his mobile phone and two laptops.

He said when the victim resisted, the suspects subjected him to severe beatings and threats before taking his possessions.

These items were retrieved from the suspects

Alarm

Mr Bonga said the victim raised an alarm when his attackers left him to his fate and fled the scene with their booty.  The alarm attracted some residents of the area, who pursued the suspects as they fled into a bush nearby.

He said the police, who had received a distress call, arrived on the scene and, with the help of some residents, arrested the suspects who were hiding in the bush near the Manna Mission Hospital at Nungua.

When the police searched the suspects, he said, they retrieved the weapons, 13 rounds of live cartridges and a sack containing GHc4,388.

During investigations, he said, the police found out that the three suspects and another member of the gang who is currently on the run had attacked a company known as Time Being Enterprise on July 30, 2016, during which they made away with GH¢11,000 and two mobile phones.

He said the gang had, on August 13, 2016, attacked the Cocoa Palace Lodge near the Beach Road where they robbed their victims of a laptop, five mobile phones and an unspecified amount of money.
