Calm has returned to Taifa Burkina, a suburb of Accra after a brawl over a woman last Thursday led to the death of two young men.

All 23 people arrested by the Madina Divisional Police Command for their alleged involvement in the death of the two have been granted a police enquiry bail, according to the Madina Divisional Crime Officer, Superintendent Joe Oppong.

Graphic Online gathered that the two deceased persons, clashed at the shop of the lady in question at Taifa Burkina and engaged in a quarrel.

The lady is assisting the police in their investigations whilst a 26-year-old Rastafarian identified by the police as Gideon Ofosu has also been arrested in connection to the incident.

The incident, characterized by sporadic shooting and machete attacks led to a halt in trading activities in the area as people abandoned their wares to run for their lives.

One of the deceased persons was shot whilst the other was lynched by a mob.

But the deployment of police personnel to the area has resulted in an uneasy calm, with the resumption of trading activities.

Graphic Online’s crime reporter, Emelia Ennin Abbey who received a briefing from the Accra Regional Police Commander, DCOP Osabarima Oware Pinkro III, said Fosu was accused by a certain man (name withheld) of having an affair with his girlfriend, who worked at a boutique.

Fosu denied the accusation, but was identified by a friend of the first man as being the one having an affair with the lady.

The first man, the police commander said attacked Fosu with a bottle, which infuriated him.

“Fosu drove home to Ashongman, picked a Pump Action gun loaded with five rounds of ammunition and rushed to the spot but the man who attacked him had left the scene,’’ he said.

Fosu, however, met the man, who identified him as the one having an affair with the lady.

“Fosu fired a warning shot and when the man saw him with a gun he attempted to escape. Some boys confronted him [Fosu] to disarm him, but he fired another warning shot, fled the scene and entered someone’s room,’’ DCOP Prinko III added.

According to the police commander, two men followed Fosu with one injuring him with a cutlass, a situation which led Fosu to fire continuously and fled to another house until the police arrived on the scene.

“Two dead bodies were picked by police, one with gunshot wound and the other with multiple cutlass wounds,’’ he said.

The bodies, he said, have since been deposited at the Police Hospital morgue.

Residents are, however, still in a state of shock and have yet to come to terms with what actually happened. Most of them are, therefore, shying away from the media probably because of the heavy police presence in the area.
