The Kpando Police Commander who confirmed the incident in a radio interview on Accra based Joy FM, said it happened between 7 and 8pm.

There is a long standing conflict between Nkonya and Alavanyo, which has occasioned an imposition of a curfew in the area.

Wednesday night's attack came hours after the Interior Ministry announced a renewal of the periodic curfew from 11pm to 4am.

The police commander said the soldiers on the ground who were monitoring events indicated that the attack came from the Alavanyo direction.

He said he was yet to ascertain the identity of those shot and injured.

The Volta Regional Minister, Dr Archibald Letsa on his part told Joy FM that they have sent a task force to the ground to help the military maintain law and order.

“This morning [Thursday] there is an emergency district security council meeting at Nkonya in the Biakoye District. They are going to meet and advice what next steps to take,” the Regional Minister said.
