2 Cops given 10 days to produce hardened criminals

The police have intensified the hunt for the hardened suspected criminals who broke jail last Sunday at Denu in the Ketu South District and made away with two AK 47 assault rifles and 25 rounds of ammunition.

To this end, the pictures of the escapees have been given to Togolese security agencies to be circulated to all security installations towards the re-arrest of the jail breakers.

In addition, the police officers who were on duty at the time have been tasked to produce the escapees within 10 days or face severe sanctions.

The Deputy Volta Regional Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) William Akpese, disclosed this to the  Daily Graphic in Ho yesterday.

Last Sunday, the seven suspected criminals who were in lawful custody at the cell of the Denu Police Station for various offences were said to have overpowered two police officers who were on duty at the time of the jailbreak.

The all-male fugitives, whose identities have not yet been disclosed, allegedly made away with two AK47 rifles and 25 rounds of ammunition.

However, luck eluded six others who also attempted to escape, when they were overpowered by the police.
