2 Bodies donate to MOFA

Two bodies have presented items and cash to the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA) in support of this year’s Farmers Day celebration.

They are Garnoma Agro-Chemicals (GAC), dealers in agro-chemicals, which presented 100 knapsack sprayers, and the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) which donated GH¢10,000 to the ministry.

The items and the money were respectively presented by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the GAC, Alhaji A. Ganiyu Suleman, and the acting Protocol Officer of TOR, Mrs Akua Asabea Kutriakor, on the premises of the ministry last Thursday.

Presentation
A Deputy Minister at MoFA, Dr Ahmed Yakubu Alhassan, received the items and the money on behalf of the ministry and expressed appreciation to the two bodies for their generosity.

He observed that farmers played an important role in the development of the country and called on other corporate bodies to support the initiative to honour them.

Alhaji Suleman said the presentation of the knapsack sprayers was in fulfilment of a promise he made to support this year’s Farmers Day, which was launched on July 15, 2016.

He had earlier made similar donations to support the regional offices of MoFA in the Northern and Upper West regions.

Social responsibility
For her part, Mrs Kutriakor said the presentation by TOR formed part of the company’s corporate social responsibility, adding that all other sectors of the economy thrived because of the role of the contributions of farmers played to provide raw materials.

Farmers Day
The annual event is scheduled to take place at Kintampo in the Brong Ahafo Region on November 4, instead the usual first Friday in December because of the December 7 elections.
First celebrated in 1984, Farmers Day is the biggest national event at which farmers are honoured for their hard work.
