The group, also known as “Ebla”, presented assorted items, including 19 teachers’ desks and tables, 10 ceiling fans, 10 garden seats for students and 30 library books valued at GH¢16,000, to the school.

It also used the occasion to mark the 40th anniversary of leaving the school.

Challenges

Addressing the group after receiving the items on behalf of the school, the Headmaster, Mr Gideon Tay, bemoaned the lack of facilities to boost teaching and learning, saying that all the projects started in the school five years ago were at a standstill.

He mentioned the dining hall, the ICT centre and the girls’ hostel as some of the facilities that needed to be upgraded to enhance teaching and learning in the school.

He said the school also needed a fence wall, staff bungalows, an administration block, computers and printers, photocopiers, a standby generator, a public address system and poly tanks to store water for students.

He said the lack of dormitories, teachers’ bungalows and a dining hall was a major drawback to the enforcement of discipline and academic progress.

According to Mr Tay, in spite of the numerous challenges faced by the school, it continued to progress academically, adding that it obtained 99.4 per cent and a 100 per cent in the 2015 and 2016 WASSCE, respectively.

He thanked the group for the support and said the gesture would go a long way to draw the attention of the larger section of the old students.

Remarks by president of group

The President of the 1976 Year Group, Dr Ben Nyamadi, who presented the items, said the condition of the school was a major source of concern to the group and that its gesture was to contribute towards its development process.

He encouraged the current students to take advantage of the opportunity being provided them and study hard to become useful and industrious citizens to the nation.

Established in 1959, the Anlo Senior High School currently has a population of 2,140, with staff strength of 148, comprising both teaching and non-teaching staff.
