Zoomkids take part in quiz marking Zoomlion @ 10
It was great fun and excitement for Zoomkids Club members when they took part in regional sanitation quiz competitions to commemorate the 10th anniversary celebration of Zoomlion Ghana Limited.

The National Quiz competition was launched by the corporate social responsibility wing of Zoomlion, Zoomlion Foundation, between April 15 and April 29, 2016, in all the 10 regions in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the School Health Education Programme (SHEP).
The National Coordinator of Zoomlion Foundation, Mrs Sarah Kyei, said the objective of the quiz was to upgrade the knowledge of school children on environmental sanitation.
As part of the event, pictures, posters and banners depicting the harmful effects of poor sanitation were displayed at all the venues of the quiz, as well as poetry recitals by some of the schoolchildren to highlight the harmful effects of poor sanitation in communities and schools.
The quiz
The quiz competition offered an opportunity for the students to demonstrate the knowledge and skills they had acquired on environmental sanitation through their participation in the Zoomkids Club activities at their school level.
All the schools that participated in the quiz competitions were members of the Zoomkids clubs, which is an initiative of Zoomlion Foundation. The Zoomkids clubs are made up of environmental, sanitation and health clubs in schools which aim at training children as peer educators on environmental sanitation.
All participating pupils from the various schools received exercise books, pens, mathematical sets, dictionaries, dustbins, handwashing materials and certificates.
Winners
The 10 schools which emerged as winners from the various regions included Fountain Gate International School, Bolgatanga; Presby SSNIT Model, Wa; Bishops JHS, Tamale; Mother Smith Preparatory School, Kumasi; Drobo Demonstrations JHS, Drobo; Kakumdo M/A JHS, Cape Coast; Mary Summer Preparatory, Suhum; Keta Basic School, Ho; Teshie-Nungua Estate Basic, Accra and NavWest Basic School, Takoradi.
Miss Mary Tee and Ferdinand Akugre emerged winners in the Upper East regional quiz competition. An excited Ms Tee said “if I study hard I know I can win greater prizes in the future.”
Master Edmund Nyame Amponsa and Mariwa Evelyn from the Drobo Demonstration School in Brong Ahafo were also happy to be selected as winners for their school. Master Amponsa said, “I am very happy that Zoomlion Ghana has given me this opportunity to be part of the quiz competition. I know the sky will be my limit if I study very well.”
Miss Emmanuella Sarpong and Master Kingsley Kwasi Boateng were the winners from the Eastern Region. Ms Sarpong stated that “Zoomlion should organise many more quizzes to test our knowledge on what we have learned at our Zoomkids Club.”
SHEP
The National SHEP Coordinator, Ms Ellen Gyekye, who witnessed the Greater Accra Zoomkids clubs regional quiz, impressed on Zoomlion Foundation to continue in the awareness creation of sanitation issues.
She said, “It would be even good if the Foundation could target kindergarten children to sensitise them to cleanliness, personal hygiene and the need to stop littering.”
The Director of Adentan Municipal Education office, Mrs Angela Tena Mensah, in a speech at the Greater Accra regional quiz, congratulated Zoomlion Ghana Limited on the occasion of their 10th anniversary celebration, and urged the Foundation to continue to invest in environmental awareness.
The Ashanti Region Metro Director of SHEP, Madam Augustina Attakorah, also lauded the initiative of Zoomlion to get basic schools to compete in sanitation programmes.
"Zoomlion needs to sustain its efforts and endeavour to involve more basic schools in such competitions," she urged.
The Keta Municipal SHEP Coordinator, Mr Franklin Ametepe, congratulated the winning school, Ketasco Basic, and urged the students to study hard.
He said “if you study hard you can get several opportunities that you never dreamt of. School children should learn to take environmental sanitation seriously to enable them to become good citizens in society.”
Second stage
The second stage of the national quiz competition took off on May 1, 2016 with contestants from the Northern zone competing against each other at the Ghana Television Studio 2 in Tamale.
The Upper East Region emerged winners while Upper West came second, with Ashanti Region placing third in the competition.
Mrs Kyei said the competition for the Southern zone would take place on May 15, 2016, while the final stage of the competition would take place on June 12, 2016.
She said all the quiz contests would be broadcast live on Ghana Television at 12 p.m. on Sundays, with Mr Daniel Afari Yeboah of “What do you know” fame as the quiz master.
